Thoughts of Christmas

Postby Jerry Doctor » Wed Dec 24, 2014 3:34 pm

This is something no one probably wants to read but I feel compelled to write it anyway. Therapy, I guess.

I've been sitting here listening to the music of Chip Davis' American Christmas and it got me to thinking. The holidays are a time to be with friends and family. But it can be hard not to get depressed when you think about those that are no longer with us. My father died almost six years ago but I still have trouble accepting that he is no longer there for me. Our SCCA family has been hard hit the last few years. "Mama Sam," Greg Scharnberg, Kris Mandt, Paul Brown, Steve Fenske, Sherry Huxtable, Dan Spencer, Chris Safranek and other familiar faces are no longer seen at our events.

I am so fortunate to get to spend this time with my daughter and her family. Melancholy rapidly disappears when you see the look of wonder in the eyes of your grandchildren. For those not so blessed, I hope they can take comfort in "the reason for the season."

My sincerest wishes for a Merry Christmas to all of you.
