Neon Drivers: 205 vs. 225 width tires, Anyone tried them?

Postby jamesp » Mon Jun 05, 2006 11:13 pm

I'm looking for some feedback from any of you Neon drivers out there: Has anyone tried 225 width tires on a Neon?

I'm running 205s now, and am considering 225s on 15x6" stock alloys. Specs say they should fit, and be very close to the original diameter.

regards,

Greetings.

I have a 97 Neon ACR (currently non-functional). Experience (and wiser people than me) has taught me that 225s fit fine on the front and 205s fit on the back. You can get the 225s to fit on the back with a 5mm spacer. Also, at full lock on the steering wheel, the 225s will rub slightly on the inside of the wheel well.

Jan, can you correct/corroborate?

Hope that helps.

West,

Was there a significant change/improvement in cornering grip? I suspect that turn-in suffers, but lateral grip improves.

thanks,

Back during the "Neon wars" of 95-99 (ie. when Dodge paid big contingency) the "fast" guys were running 225/50's in front and 205/55's in the rear. The mis-matched sizes were to help make the car rotate. However, this was on Stock class 1st gen cars with 14" rims so I don't know how this correlates to 2nd gen cars and 15" wheels and modified suspensions.

When I can afford to make the move to 15x7 wheels on the racecar I probably will run 205/50's all the way around so I can run older tires on the back to stretch my tire budget.
