The Byers Trophy was awarded in recognition of the best event of the year.
The winner was determined by the contestant's evaluations of the events. The Contestant Evaluation Reports (or C.E.R.s) were turned in by each of the participants (member and nonmember) at the conclusion of each event.
Each participant rated the event on a numerical scale. The event receiving the highest average rating from Nebraska Region members was named the Best Event of the Year. In order to qualify for a best event trophy, over 50% of the competitors (members and nonmembers) must have rated the event.
Dr. Robert C. Byers (known to friends as "Jack") joined Nebraska Region in 1958. He lost his life in a one-car crash on Friday, June 22, 1962.
A long time enthusiast and former winner of the Golden Rod Rally, Dr. Byers had withdrawn from sports car activity upon the death of his wife, Annibal, almost exactly one year before his own death.
