George Gunther Memorial Trophy (retired)

Gunther

Purpose

This trophy was awarded annually to the outstanding regionally licensed competition driver.

How it was awarded

Like many of the other annual trophies, the Gunther Memorial has had several methods for determining the winner over the years.

Most recently, this trophy, and the National Competition Driver, were awarded based on the votes of a selection committee.

The selection committee consisted of the last three winners* of the Gunther Memorial, the last three winners* of the National Competition Driver, and a race worker appointed by the Regional Executive.

*The last three individuals who won the award.

History of the Trophy

In 1994 the Regional Competition Driver Trophy became the George Gunther Memorial Trophy. (For winners from 1975 to 1993, see the Regional Competition Driver trophy.)

As of 2015, this trophy has become the Nebraska Club Race Driver of the Year due to changes made to club racing at a national level.
